The Oak Cliff Cultural Center presents a new solo exhibition “Tracing the Traces” by artist Chenxi Gao

On view May 9 through June 6, 2026

Dallas - In the exhibition “Tracing the Traces”, artist Chenxi Gao uses paper, thread, fabric, and video projection to explore objects, homes, spaces, people, and the connections between them. The exhibition is free and open to the public and will kick off with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026,at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center (223 W. Jefferson Blvd., Dallas, TX 75208).

In her work, Gao traces monologues and conversations, the remembered and the forgotten, the real and the reimagined. Are homes meant to be temporary? What happens to the traces we leave behind in the space we once inhabited and the land we have passed through? These questions surface as Gao moves between homes, cities, and countries. This exhibition features works made in Denton, Texas; Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Roanoke, Virginia between 2023 and 2026.

Chenxi Gao is a printmaking-based mixed-media artist. Born and raised in China, Gao earned her BFA from Baylor University and MFA from the University of North Texas. By pondering her relationship with multiple living spaces since childhood, she explores her sense of self in the shifting of cultural and social environments. Gao has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her work has entered multiple permanent collections, such as the Bradbury Art Museum. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Printmaking at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.
