Dallas Development Among Finalists in Contest for Mile-Long Tunnel by Elon Musk’s The Boring Company

DALLAS - The University Hills development in Southern Dallas has been named a finalist in a competition hosted by The Boring Company, the tunneling company founded by Elon Musk, to construct a mile-long tunnel project at no cost to the City of Dallas.

University Hills is among 16 finalists out of a total of 487 submissions vying to be selected for the proposed tunnel, which could be located at the University Hills development and connect to the University of North Texas Dallas DART Station.

The Boring Company invited individuals, companies, and governments to submit proposals for a tunnel project up to one mile in length with a 12-foot inner diameter. The company announced its Tunnel Vision Challenge in January, calling for proposals that demonstrate innovative ways tunnels can solve real-world problems. The Boring Company is expected to announce the winning proposal on March 23, 2026.

University Hills is Hoque Global’s 280-acre, $1 billion development in Southern Dallas. The walkable, urban neighborhood will include 580 homes, multiple phases of mixed-use development, and a town center. Infrastructure work is underway and home construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
