New Ride Smart, Arrive Safe Initiative
Putting the public first is the goal behind a new program called Ride Smart, Arrive Safe.
“This initiative is focused on educating the traveling public on safe practices when using ride-share services and other transportation-for-hire options at Dallas Love Field,” Code Enforcement Supervisor Paul Price explained. “The program will provide actionable guidance to help passengers protect themselves, avoid price gouging, and report any suspicious activity.”
Lease Agreement with Southwest Airlines Extended
Southwest Airlines will continue its base of operations at Dallas Love Field until at least 2040. The Dallas City Council recently voted in favor of the lease extension.
“I want to express my gratitude and congratulations to you and the entire Aviation Department for your exceptional work leading to the unanimous approval of the 2028 Airline Use and Lease Agreement at Dallas Love Field,” Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert wrote in an email addressed to Aviation Director Patrick Carreno. “Your dedication to upholding Dallas’ commitment to Service First, Now! has been evident throughout this process, demonstrating a relentless focus on delivering value and excellence to our Love Field passengers and our Southwest Airlines partners.”
  Crossfield Taxiway Program Wins Award
The Crossfield Taxiway Replacement Program, a major airfield transformation project designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance safety, and prepare the airport for future expansion, is an award winner.
The runway remodel was recently selected as a 2025 Airport Business Project of the Year in the Runway/Ramp category by Airport Business, a publication that focuses on the aviation industry.
“This project addresses a significant milestone for the Department of Aviation on the airfield and its operational functionality,” Assistant Director of Capital Infrastructure and Development Vincent Lewis said. “It allows for an ideal traversing of the aircrafts (commercial and private) to both sides of the airfield for use of both runways as needed.”
The undertaking, completed in early 2025, replaced an outdated midfield taxiway with two new dual crossfield taxiways that align perpendicular to Runways 13R-31L and 13L-31R.
