Council Member Zarin D. Gracey Statement on the Shooting at The Shops at RedBird

DALLAS - Dallas is a city on the rise, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Red Bird area, where years of investment, collaboration, and visionary planning are transforming the landscape into a thriving hub of opportunity, innovation, and community pride.

Unfortunately, we were made aware of an isolated shooting incident at RedBird Mall. Dallas Police Department has confirmed that this was a targeted incident, and a suspect has already been identified. DPD is actively investigating and working diligently to ensure justice is served.

Let me be clear: this singular act does not define the Red Bird area, nor does it derail the progress we've made. The growth happening in this corridor, through new businesses, healthcare access, and housing opportunities, is a testament to what’s possible when community and city leaders work together with purpose.

To our residents and partners, remain encouraged. Our commitment to reimagining Red Bird and Southern Dallas as the ideal definition of progress and promise has never been stronger. This is a moment for unity, not fear, and together, we will continue building a safer, stronger, and more vibrant District 3 and southern Dallas.
