DALLAS FIRE-RESCUE DEPARTMENT AND OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFER SAFETY TIPS DURING FIRE WEATHER WATCH

Dallas - Dallas Fire-Rescue Department and the Office of Emergency Management & Crisis Response (ECR) are sharing tips on how to stay safe during hazardous weather conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 11AM to 9PM, Friday, March 14, 2025.

The NWS has also issued a Fire Weather Watch due to above normal temperatures, low humidity, gusty winds, dry vegetation, and ongoing drought. During this time, fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly, posing extreme danger to life and property. Dallas Fire-Rescue Department and the Office of Emergency Management & Crisis Response urge residents to take precautions and stay vigilant.

Dispose of Cigarettes Properly

Even one discarded cigarette can start a wildfire. Always put out smoking materials in a sturdy, non-combustible container.

No Outdoor Burning During a Red Flag Warning

No outdoor burning during a Red Flag Warning. Even a small spark can turn into a wildfire.

Secure Trailer Chains to Prevent Sparks

Dragging trailer chains can create sparks that ignite roadside fires. Always check that chains are secure before driving. Small sparks can turn into big fires.

Report Smoke or Fire IMMEDIATELY

Call 911 if you see smoke. Early reporting saves lives, homes, and trees.

Stay Informed & Monitor Fire Weather Alerts

Knowledge is safety. Stay tuned to local news and weather updates for fire danger alerts. Awareness today prevents disaster tomorrow.

Have a Wildfire Evacuation Plan

Know multiple escape routes from your home and have emergency supplies ready. When it’s time to go—GO! Safety first, always.

Use Spark Arresters on Outdoor Equipment

If you’re using a chainsaw, ATV, or other equipment, make sure it has a spark arrester to prevent sparks from igniting dry vegetation.

Don't Park On Dry Grass

Hot exhaust systems can ignite dry grass in seconds. Always park on a paved or gravel surface, not on a fire hazard.

Create Defensible Space Around Your Home

Clear debris around your home, such as dry leaves, dead branches, and flammable materials at least 30 feet from your home to slow the spread of wildfires. Your home’s safety starts with clearing space of fire hazards.

The Office of Emergency Management & Crisis Response maintains the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in a 24/7 ready state to serve as the central coordination point for incidents of this scale, ensuring communications across departments and agency representatives. The EOC will share alerts and warnings to residents who may be in areas at risk. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the DallasAlert emergency notification system by following this link or texting DALLAS to 67283.

Stay alert and take precautions to protect your home, family, and community.
