Dallas, TX – The City of Dallas, in partnership with the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, invites the public to join Councilmember Jaynie Schultz of District 11, Councilmember Paul E. Ridley of District 14, and Councilmember Jesse Moreno of District 2 at a meaningful Street Topper Unveiling Ceremony honoring Holocaust survivor Max Glauben. The ceremony will take place on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, located at 300 N. Houston Street.
This special event will serve as a powerful tribute to Max Glauben’s incredible life of resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to preserving the history of the Holocaust. This event coincides with International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a solemn occasion dedicated to remembering the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust and honoring survivors.
Mary Pat Higgins, President and CEO of the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, remarked, "Max Glauben’s legacy of resilience, education, and unwavering dedication to fighting hatred has profoundly shaped our community and the world, and it is a true honor to have his name forever etched in the streets of Dallas, ensuring his memory and message live on for generations to come."
Phil Glauben, son of Max Glauben, shared, "It will be an immense privilege to represent my father, Max Glauben, whose journey from unimaginable loss to a symbol of hope and education will continue to inspire us all—this street topper will serve as a lasting tribute to his mission of teaching the world that 'hate is a disease, and education is the cure.”
Councilmember Jaynie Schultz expressed, "This is a sign that represents all that is good in this country. Max Glauben represents our aspirations for humanity."
Born in Warsaw, Poland Max Glauben (1928-2022), had lost his immediate family to the Holocaust by the age of 13. He endured the horrors of the Warsaw Ghetto, multiple concentration camps, and a death march before being liberated by American forces in 1945. His legacy is one of profound strength and appreciation for life. He shared his testimony with countless individuals, ensuring that future generations will never forget the atrocities of the Holocaust. Max became a beacon of hope and resilience through his dedication, inspiring us all to continue the fight against hatred, intolerance, and injustice.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to visit the Museum’s Dimensions in Testimony Theater, where they can engage with Max Glauben’s powerful testimony, preserved to ensure his voice continues to educate and inspire for years to come.
