The City of Dallas hosts public art dedication ceremony for COMUNIDAD at Crawford Memorial Park

DALLAS -The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture and Dallas Park and Recreation Department will be hosting a dedication for COMUNIDAD, a striking new sculptural installation at Crawford Memorial Park that celebrates and invites the community to share a table. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Crawford Park (179 N Prairie Creek Rd., Dallas, TX 75217)and is free and open to the public to attend.

The ceremony will include remarks from the artist Brad J. Goldberg and City officials. There will be opportunities for attendees to meet the artist, interact with the artwork and enjoy light refreshments as well as music and dance performances by Reuben Lael Griffin and the Alegre Ballet Folklorico.  Installed in fall 2023 the artwork invites and encourages the community to gather and become part of this interactive art installation by activating it. Without people, this artwork is not complete.

The artist envisioned a series of community tables and sculptural elements to bring people together. Whether it’s a small family picnic, a wedding, reunion, Quinceañera, or a community gathering, it is a space that welcomes people to gather and enjoy nature. COMUNIDAD fosters a sense of belonging and solidarity through a fusion of form and function. The installation consists of four, well-crafted granite elements: a modest golden-colored granite multi-purpose platform, a 30’ long seating element, and two elliptical community tables: an 80-foot-long table, and a smaller 30-foot-long table.

The Dallas Public Art Program manages the commission and acquisition of new public art as well as the conservation and maintenance of the existing City of Dallas art collection. Works of public art, many created by local and regional artists, enliven parks, libraries, fire stations, recreation centers and many more public locations in Dallas.
