Inspiring Exhibition and Conference Room Dedication Honoring north Dallas Black History

Dallas, TX - On Sunday, February 18 from 2 to 4 p.m., District 11 Councilmember Jaynie Schultz will open an exciting new exhibit as well as dedicate a new conference room at the Prism Center in Dallas, the city-owned center of the Dallas International District. The North Dallas Black History exhibit will highlight the history of African Americans of North Dallas. In addition, Dr. George Keaton Jr. will be remembered for his work in our community with a dedication of a conference room at the center.

"This exhibition provides a unique opportunity for our community to learn about and celebrate the incredible contributions of African Americans to the growth and development of north Dallas," said Councilmember Schultz.

The captivating exhibition will showcase significant events, landmarks, and individuals through an array of compelling displays. Visitors will learn how African Americans have shaped the landscape of north Dallas, particularly District 11, over the decades. Dr. Opal Lee, grandmother of Juneteenth, will be the special guest to share historical knowledge. The exhibition will be open to the public during February and March. Additionally, the Prism Center conference room will be dedicated to Dr. George E. Keaton, founder of Remembering Black Dallas.

Dr. Keaton dedicated his life to preserving Dallas's black history and his work laid the foundation for exhibitions like this. “Dr. Keaton’s research and passion for our community’s history has been invaluable,” said Councilmember Schultz. “This dedication will help ensure his legacy lives on for generations to come.”

With powerful visuals and inspiring dedication, the North Dallas African American History Exhibition and Dr. George Keaton Jr. Conference Room dedication promises to be an unforgettable tribute to the black community. Councilmember Schultz invites all residents to attend and experience this celebration of north Dallas heritage.
