The Oak Cliff Cultural Center presents:
ADORNÓ: Celebrating the Intricate Details of Traditional
Mexican Regalia

DALLAS - The Oak Cliff Cultural Center (OC3) is pleased to present ADORNÓ: Celebrating the Intricate Details of Traditional Mexican Regalia.  ADORNÓ  willlopen with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, and will run through Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023.  The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Embedded within the essence of Mexican identity, Ballet Folklórico is greatly intertwined with visual representations, and the details of the dances are expressive of the culture. The wardrobe adorning the dancers seamlessly harmonizes with the choreography, footwork and stories, eloquently conveying the depth and richness of Mexico's cultural legacy. While rooted in tradition, the realm of Folklórico frequently witnesses stylistic differences among dance groups.

Curated by Pedro Perez II and Dominique Avila Fleming, ADORNÓ highlights the elaborate details that decorate traditional Mexican regalia. Featured in the exhibition are the exquisite garments and accessories of Alegre Ballet Folklórico, an Oak Cliff dance troupe founded by Pedro Perez II that has been upholding the art of Ballet Folklórico and serving the community since 1993.

Oak Cliff native Pedro Perez II is the Founder and Director of Alegre Ballet Folklórico. His love for Folklórico dance began in elementary school and was nurtured at Ballet Folklórico Hispano de Dallas. Perez is self-taught in sewing which has enabled him to create many of the Alegre Balllet Folklórico’s "vestuarios".

Dominique Avila Fleming, Oak Cliff native has been a part of Alegre Ballet Folklórico since the age of six, as an ensemble member and group assistant. Fleming has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from UT-Arlington. She is an apprentice at the Irving Archives and Museum, a teaching artist for the Cara Mia Theatre Company, and grant writer for Alegre Ballet Folklórico.

The Oak Cliff Cultural Center is located at 223 W. Jefferson Blvd. next to the historic Texas Theater. Operating hours are from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday every week. ADORNÓ will be on view through Nov. 11, 2023.
