Dallas - The City of Dallas Office of Community Care (OCC), in partnership with Dallas Public Library and Dallas Park and Recreation, is excited to announce the expansion of the Period Access Dallas (PAD) initiative.  

The initiative, piloted with funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and expanded with support from the Racial Equity Fund, provides free period products including pads and tampons at public facilities including recreation centers, community centers, and branch libraries.   

Menstrual hygiene is fundamental to a person’s dignity and wellbeing and an important part of basic hygiene, sanitation and health. Many individuals do not have access to materials for managing their periods in a safe and hygienic manner. 

 “People who can’t afford menstrual products are more likely to miss school or work during their periods,” said Office of Community Care Director Jessica Galleshaw. “This initiative will support our efforts to increase gender and health equity so people don’t suffer from lost educational opportunities or employment income if they can’t affordably access pads or tampons.” 

“Period products are a basic need and providing them to all allows residents dignity and confidence to know they have access,” said Councilwoman Paula Blackmon. “Our residents shouldn’t have to choose between maintaining their health or attending school and work. This is a public health and economic equity initiative”.
