Hospital capacity in Dallas on April 28

DALLAS — Twenty-five hospitals on Tuesday reported ventilator and bed capacity numbers to Mayor Eric Johnson's office.

Dallas hospitals are required to report the information pursuant to the City of Dallas emergency regulations enacted by Mayor Johnson during the local state of disaster. The reporting requirements are meant to provide data to decision-makers and information to the public regarding the medical community's capacity to handle an expected increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

Here are the aggregate capacity totals for Tuesday, as reported by the 25 hospitals:

• Total beds: 5,695
  • Beds occupied: 3,271

• Total ICU beds: 827
  • ICU beds occupied: 566

• Total ventilators: 942
  • Ventilators in use: 330

Please note that the numbers represent a point-in-time snapshot and might fluctuate throughout the day. Hospitals also may be able to expand bed capacity if necessary.

Dallas County reported on Tuesday that 796 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county have required hospitalization. Of those, 255 people were admitted to the ICU, and 162 required ventilators. About 52 percent of those hospitalized had one or more high-risk condition. Diabetes was the most prevalent of those conditions. And 63 percent of hospitalizations were for patients under the age of 65.
