Mayor Eric Johnson to attend U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting

DALLAS — Mayor Eric Johnson will attend the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) Winter Meeting beginning Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

Mayor Johnson, who was elected in June 2019, is a member of USCM leadership as Vice Chair for Transit. On Thursday, he will speak as part of a panel discussion on Managing New Transportation and Communications Technologies and Services.

“I am proud to serve in the role of Vice Chair for Transit,” Mayor Johnson said. “Dallas, like many cities, must address its transportation challenges to ensure an equitable and prosperous future. Since I have been mayor, I have met with numerous leaders in Washington regarding the need for more robust transit funding and the localization of federal highway dollars. I look forward to continuing those advocacy efforts.”

USCM is a nonpartisan organization that represents more than 1,400 cities that have populations of 30,000 or more. Each city is represented in the conference by its chief elected official. The mayors collectively work through the conference’s standing committees to adopt policy resolutions.

The Winter Meeting runs from Wednesday through Friday, Jan. 24. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mayor Johnson will also attend the Mayors Innovation Project: Winter 2020 Policy Meeting.

“Our state and our country are driven by our cities, and local leadership is at the forefront of some of the most pressing issues we face,” said Mayor Johnson. “I am excited to learn from other leaders across the country and to discuss issues that are crucial to Dallas."
