City Manager names Laila Alequresh as Chief Innovation Officer

Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax announced the appointment of Laila Alequresh as the City’s Chief Innovation Officer (CINO). Alequresh will lead the newly created Office of Innovation effective January 11, 2019.

“Laila’s vast experience will be beneficial as we work to strengthen our capacity to be more strategic in how we adapt to the changing needs of our organization and diverse community,” said Broadnax. “Her role is critical in formulating non-traditional approaches and solutions to better address the challenges of our city and residents.”

The new Office of Innovation will seek opportunities to drive operational and technological improvements, create change by introducing new ideas to City leaders and encourage new and innovative projects. Alequresh will serve as a consultant and facilitator for City employees, local businesses, and organizations seeking to develop new solutions to civic challenges and city-wide systemic issues.

Before joining the City of Dallas, Alequresh led efforts to improve organizational structures and processes as an Executive Advisor for the City of Los Angeles. Prior to her role in Los Angeles, she worked for the City of Philadelphia as the citywide Performance Management Director and was responsible for designing and implementing data centric, citizen focused strategies that supported the overall strategic plan and partnering with departments to develop ways to improve service delivery.

She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration and is trained in Project Management, Lean Six Sigma and Baldrige principles. She is a past Baldrige examiner and was a 2015 NextGen Government Public Service Award Finalist.

In addition to her experience in local government, Alequresh previously worked in both corporate and non-profit sectors where she focused on performance and efficiency.

“I believe government leaders should always listen to the public first when establishing a strategy to improve performance and the quality of life for residents,” said Alequresh. “It’s a key part of a holistic approach for making sure City initiatives have high-quality performance outcomes and maintain a ‘Service First’ outlook.”
