NASHVILLE, TENN. (September 10, 2026) – The Metropolitan Council and Davidson County Election Commission are collaborating to promote National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

In preparation for the nonpartisan effort, Council Members toured the new Election Commission office where they received an overview of the election process in Davidson County, including demonstrations of voting equipment.

“We wanted Council Members to get a behind-the-scenes look at elections in our county,” said John D. Richardson, Davidson County Administrator of Elections. “The greater their understanding of the details of our work, the easier it will be for them to answer questions from their constituents and encourage participation in the electoral process.”

“With the November 3 election fast approaching, we encourage all eligible residents to register to vote and make a plan to cast their ballot,” added Richardson.

As of September 1, 2026, there are 476,807 eligible registered voters in Davidson County. With Tennessee’s voter registration deadline on October 5, National Voter Registration Day offers a timely opportunity for everyone to prepare for November 3. Early Voting for the State and Federal General Election begins October 14 and runs through October 29.

“National Voter Registration Day coincides with our next regular Council Meeting,” said Vice Mayor Angie E. Henderson. “We are glad to have Election Commissioners and staff joining us on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse & City Hall from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to register new voters, answer questions, process changes of address, and share voting information. Council Members will continue this effort by encouraging voter registration at GoVoteTN.gov and early voting.”

“As elected officials, we have a civic duty to educate ourselves and our constituents about voting. Our goal, along with the Election Commission, is for all eligible Davidson County citizens to register and have the information they need to vote in every election. National Voter Registration Day is a reminder to check your registration, update it if needed, and make a plan to vote early,” emphasized Henderson.

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to celebrating our democracy. Since its start in 2012, National Voter Registration Day and its team of thousands of partners have worked to get over 6.5 million Americans registered to vote in time for their next trip to the ballot box.

The Davidson County Election Commission is responsible for providing free and fair elections to every eligible citizen. The Election Commission is regulated by State of Tennessee law and funded by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. A new self-service kiosk is located next to the County Clerk’s Office in the Howard Office Building at 700 President Ronald Reagan Way.
