Mayor O’Connor Joins Larimer Community Leaders and URA to Launch Initiative for New Neighborhood Housing
Pittsburgh, PA – Today, Mayor Corey O’Connor joined the Larimer Consensus Group, leaders from the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Councilman Khari Mosley to promote a community initiative to bring housing to the Larimer community. The groups have coordinated to release a Request for Interest (RFI) in the rebuilding of housing on lots across the neighborhood.
“Thanks to our partnership with the Larimer Consensus Group and URA, this is a big step toward our united commitment to bringing new housing opportunities for families to Larimer,” said Mayor O’Connor. “Almost all of these vacant lots once had homes on them and we want to work together to build and restore housing and bring additional investment to the neighborhood.”
The RFI will be released today for scattered-site lots, or individual lots throughout the neighborhood, that are currently owned by the City or URA. Applicants can share their ideas and proposals for the construction of new, high-quality housing or mixed-use residential opportunities.
"The Larimer Community has long awaited a concerted and coordinated effort to activate the vacant and dilapidated land in our community,” said K. Chase Patterson of the Larimer Consensus Group. “We are excited for the momentum that is coming, led by Mayor O'Connor, and we look forward to working collaboratively with his administration and the URA to ensure that our Community Plan and vision for Larimer become a lived reality."
"We know that meeting our housing needs requires more than public resources alone. To build at the scale our city needs, we must attract private-sector partners who are willing to invest with confidence," said Susheela Nemani-Stanger, Executive Director of the URA. "That means reducing uncertainty, aligning public resources, and making development opportunities as clear and achievable as possible."
The RFI will be open today until August 24, 2026 and proposals can be submitted here.
