This past weekend, families in the Hill District gathered at the Library for an exciting afternoon of games, activities, and community fun! Kids in grades K-5, along with their caregivers, explored the Children’s Section, where they discovered new books, toys, and engaging games.
Councilman Lavelle joined in the festivities, taking time to connect with young learners over a game of Jenga, reinforcing the importance of play and learning in early childhood development. The event featured the Unisound Musical Instrument Petting Zoo, allowing children to experience different instruments up close. Attendees also had the chance to vote on a nickname for Andrew CardnEGGie and enter a raffle to win their very own plushie!
With laughter filling the library, families left with new memories, books, and inspiration to keep exploring. A special thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day a success!

Community Collaboration Shapes Vision for Zone Two Police Station & Adjacent Parcels
On Thursday, February 27, community members, stakeholders, and local leaders gathered for a Design Charette focused on the Zone Two Police Station and the adjacent vacant parcels along Centre Avenue. Hosted by the Hill CDC in partnership with the Hill District Federal Credit Union, the City of Pittsburgh, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the event provided a platform for collaborative planning and visioning for this key development site.
Held at the New Granada Square Apartments Community Room, the charette brought together residents and experts to discuss opportunities for transforming the site in a way that benefits the Hill District community. The session, facilitated by the design firm evolveEA, resulted in preliminary site plans, conceptual design sketches, and process recommendations aimed at ensuring a unified strategy for the area’s future.
Zone Two and its surrounding parcels represent a significant opportunity for the Hill District’s main street. The discussion focused on creating a shared vision that aligns with community needs and priorities, with participants contributing ideas and feedback to help guide the next steps.
The Hill CDC expressed appreciation for the engagement and insights shared during the session, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in shaping development projects.
