National Farmers Market Week is an annual celebration that highlights the vital role farmers markets play in our nation’s food system. Started by proclamation from the US Department of Agriculture, National Farmers Market Week is coordinated by the Farmers Market Coalition. Farmers Markets are more than just a marketplace; they are community outlets where neighbors gather, friends are made, and new tastes are cultivated. Farmers Markets preserve farmland, stimulate local economies, increase access to nutritious foods, support healthy communities and promote sustainability. “CitiParks loves bringing the Farmers Markets to Pittsburghers! They provide a means for residents to access fresh, local goods, while helping to sustain and grow these small businesses,” noted Kathryn Vargas, CitiParks Director. “They also serve as a great place for residents to build community; a place where there’s something for everyone!”
