March Legislative Update

Hello friends,

We are now well into the 2019 Legislative Session and I wanted to give you a quick update. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with many of you who have come over to support various causes and I am proud to represent communities filled with people who are so civically minded. Keep up the good work!

Since we last spoke, there have been several updates. I was recently appointed to the Governor’s Wildfire Response Council. This Council will look at Oregon’s current model for wildfire prevention, preparedness, and response and then analyze if it is maintainable with the continuing escalation of Oregon’s wildfires. Our first meeting is on Monday and I’m looking forward to working with the other members to find solutions to one of our most pressing issues.

The legislation that I’ve put forth is progressing well, with multiple bills having already passed through the House. HB 2449, the Emergency Communications Funding Bill, which I filed on behalf of the city of John Day, had a public hearing on Tuesday. The public hearing showed how much support we have across the entire state. It was an incredible collaborative effort and my hope is that we will be able to continue to move this bill forward, so that our public safety answering points can get the funding they need to provide exceptional emergency services to all Oregonians.

As a friendly reminder, throughout the duration of the Legislative Session, I am hosting remote Town Hall meetings on the first Wednesday of every month from 6am-7am (PST). If you are interested in attending, the OSU extension offices in Baker, Grant, Harney, Lake, and Malheur counties all connect to the Capitol on those mornings.

Please feel free to reach out to my office if there is anything we can do for you!

Enjoy your weekend,
