District Tours, Revenue Forecasts, and Coffee Hours

Friends,

As many of you are getting back into the fall routine, I just wanted to send you a brief update on the happenings in the district.

Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of hosting Reps. Doherty and Salinas in House District 60. Since their time was limited and the district is so large, we weren’t able to visit the whole district, but I believe that they were able to see some of the important factors that make our home so uniquely different from the rest of the state, especially in regards to the challenges we face living is such close proximity to the Idaho border.

Last week, I was at the Capitol for the Revenue Forecast Meeting on Wednesday. According to a presentation given by the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis, revenue for the state is anticipated to continue to grow, but at a slower pace. Variations in fiscal policy and demographics are projected to slow job gains and income growth. Even still, the growth in revenue will generate a $686 million kicker for Oregon taxpayers. Click here to find a copy of the presentation.

We also had a very productive QBS meeting last week. The work group will meet again during the September Legislative Days and will be developing legislation for the 2019 Legislative Session.

Later on in the week, I toured Rep. Doherty’s district in Tigard and Rep. Salinas’ district in Lake Oswego. It provided me with a great opportunity to more fully understand some of the challenges that their constituents face and I look forward to working together to craft legislation that benefits the whole state in the upcoming 2019 Legislative Session.
