Volunteers Needed to Review Future Ready Oregon Workforce Ready Grant Applications

The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) is calling for volunteers to join the External Evaluation Review Committee for the next round of Future Ready Oregon Workforce Ready Grant applications. The HECC will award a combined total of approximately $40 million to recruit and retain a diverse workforce in key sectors of Oregon’s economy—healthcare, manufacturing, and technology—through three sector-focused Requests for Applications (RFAs), which are open May 31 – July 31, 2024. The External Evaluation Review Committee will score eligible applications using criteria established in the RFAs for each industry sector. Scores will inform the HECC’s funding and award decisions. Committee members will receive training and written instructions prior to starting the review process.
For more information on what volunteers can expect, please review the following details closely:

Date range: Evaluator training and the evaluation of applications will occur August 2-21, 2024.

Training: HECC staff will conduct live trainings for evaluators via Zoom. These sessions will be recorded for reference, as well as for those who are unable to attend. Attendance is highly encouraged, but optional. HECC staff will be available to address any questions that evaluators may have during the review process.
- Evaluation Process:

Number of applications: Each evaluator will be assigned no more than 15 applications to review.

Time commitment: The total time needed for this commitment is approximately 10-12 hours. This estimate includes the time to attend training, review applications (about 30 minutes/application), and ask follow-up questions.

Method: The review will take place online, using the reviewer portal function in SurveyMonkey Apply.
What if your organization is applying for a grant? If your organization or one you represent (including as a board member or volunteer) plans to apply for a Future Ready Oregon Workforce Ready Grant, you may still join the External Evaluation Review Committee. You may not review applications from within the industry sector(s) to which your organization is applying, but you may review applications for one of the other sectors.
