I-205 Abernethy Bridge Project Updates

Upcoming Nighttime Lane and Ramp Closures 

Construction work on and around I-205 will result in several nighttime lane and ramp closures the week of July 28. 

• Nighttime lane closure on I-205 northbound from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1.

• Nighttime ramp closure from OR 99E to I-205 northbound from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1.

• Lane closures on OR 43 and OR 99E at I-205. 

• Pedestrian detours on OR 43 and OR 99E at I-205.

The following ramp closures may occur throughout the week but will not happen at the same time:

• Nighttime ramp closure from OR 43 to I-205 southbound.

• Nighttime ramp closure from I-205 southbound to OR 43.

• Nighttime ramp closure from OR 43 to I-205 northbound.

As with any construction project, closure dates and timing are subject to change.

Demolition Work on Bridge Piers Continues 

Demolition of one of the bridge piers on the West Linn side of the river is underway as part of the upcoming bridge widening project. Work is taking place from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, with occasional Saturdays, and is expected to continue for the next several weeks.

Residents in the vicinity of the construction area should anticipate elevated noise levels while this work is occurring. A 24/7 nighttime noise hotline is available at 503-276-7809.

We know the noise from construction work can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience.

What is this project?

ODOT is upgrading the Abernethy Bridge, which spans the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, to withstand a major earthquake. Additional improvements are being made to the bridge's adjacent on- and off-ramps to improve safety. This work is expected to be completed in 2026.

While the funding crisis is having a profound effect on ODOT’s maintenance and operations, most construction projects will continue as planned. These projects are typically funded through separate capital programs, often with state or federal funds that are legally restricted to project development and cannot be redirected for maintenance or day-to-day operations. Delays may still occur due to a reduced workforce. Fewer available staff for traffic control, inspections and project oversight could slow down timelines or introduce challenges in project delivery.
