Sections of Fremont Bridge will close the nights of July 6-11 for regular inspections

June 30, 2025

PORTLAND – Regularly scheduled bridge inspections will require overnight closures of sections of the Fremont Bridge for up to six nights starting Sunday night, July 6.

Each closure will start at 10 p.m., and the inspected section will reopen by 5 a.m. the next day. The inspections will affect traffic on Interstates 405, and on some nights lanes leading to and from the bridge and the U.S. 30 interchange.

Detour signs will be in place for each night’s closure. We will not close both northbound and southbound I-405 on the same night.

Plan a little extra time into your trip if you use the Fremont Bridge, including I-405 and its U.S. 30 ramps, at night.

The week’s inspection schedule, subject to change:

  • Sunday night, July 6-7: Southbound I-405 for inspection of the upper deck
  • Monday night, July 7-8: Southbound I-405 for inspection of the upper deck
  • Tuesday night, July 8-9: Northbound I-405 for inspection of the lower deck
  • Wednesday night, July 9-10: Northbound I-405 for inspection of the lower deck
  • Thursday night, July 10-11: Eastbound U.S. 30 ramp to southbound I-405
  • Friday night, July 11-12: Northbound I-405 ramp to westbound U.S. 30

ODOT inspects its bridges regularly every two years and anytime there is an incident that can cause damage such as a crash, landslide or flooding. So far this summer, we have finished inspecting the Banfield Interchange, Marquam Bridge and Morrison Bridge.

The next regular inspections in the Portland area will be for the Steel Bridge during the week of Aug. 18-22. The Steel Bridge inspections will not require full closures, so we’ll inspect the bridge during the daytime and close only single lanes for that work.
