We’re updating the Transportation Safety Action Plan. Here’s how you can get involved
For more information, contact Matt Noble 503-779-9868
This year we’re updating the Transportation Safety Action Plan, which guides our decisions and investments to make roads safer for everyone, including people who walk, roll and bike.
April 29 will be the first of several opportunities for people to get involved with the update process. Together, we can reach our goal to reduce the number of crashes on Oregon’s roads and eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries.
How we’re updating the plan
We update the Transportation Safety Action Plan every five years; we last made revisions in 2021. Over the next year and a half, we’ll update the plan by:
- Analyzing safety data from the last five years to identify trends and potential solutions for all road users.
- Evaluating our progress towards eliminating fatal and serious injury crashes.
- Using partner feedback and data trends to identify actions to take in the next five years.
- Integrating the “safe system approach” to guide future safety decisions and investments.
We rely on several partners to help shape and comment on the plan: Community groups, Tribal governments, emergency service providers, local transportation agencies, a steering committee, members of the public, and others.
We expect to have a draft of the updated plan ready by June 2026. We don’t identify specific safety projects in the plan; check out our statewide project tracker to find projects in your community.
Get involved: Steering committee meeting April 29
The steering committee for the Transportation Safety Action Plan will hold its inaugural virtual meeting 10 a.m. - noon on April 29. We invite you to join the meeting and provide comments.
The committee advises the ODOT team on updates to the plan. Its members are experts who represent many interests and regions throughout Oregon.
- Discuss new ways to develop safety plans and how to align them with other plans.
- Review safety implementation activities.
- Discuss safety issues and perspectives from members of the steering committee.
-
Preview the committee meeting schedule and other engagement opportunities through 2026.
Join the virtual meeting on Zoom April 29:
How to submit a comment: You may submit written comments before the meeting by completing this online form or emailing your comment to safety@odot.oregon.gov. You may also deliver your comment in person during the first few minutes of the meeting, but your speaking time will be limited. We’ll read all written comments in full at the meeting, too.
Written comments are due by 10 a.m. April 28. If you submit your comment after the deadline, we’ll include it at the committee’s next scheduled meeting in July 2025.
Meetings are open to everyone. Accommodations will be provided to people with disabilities. To request an accommodation such as materials in alternate formats, please call Alexis Bocanegra at 503-986-2845 or call statewide relay at 7-1-1 at least 48 hours before the meeting.
