Tillamook River Bridge Preservation

Work starts late May

You'll see crews in the area preparing for construction on the OR 131 Tillamook River Bridge. This work will require the westbound lane to close 24/7, making the highway a single lane for the duration of the project.

During construction, you can expect: Crews working during the day, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. ​A westbound single lane closure with temporary traffic signals. A hard barrier blocking the westbound lane. Noise and delays. Please use caution when driving through the area – this work is on a curved road which makes it harder to see workers and other vehicles coming toward you.

About the project

The OR 131 Tillamook River Bridge is west of Tillamook at milepost 7.5.

We're planning on removing old paint and rust and will apply a new coat of paint. We'll also replace worn out or damaged bolts, rivets and bearings as needed. 

This work is important for the longevity of the bridge and to keep it in good working condition.

About Bridge Funding and Replacement

Our funding to maintain, preserve and replace bridges is limited by the structural revenue issue our agency faces. At the rate we're currently replacing bridges, it would take us almost 900 years to replace all of the bridges on the state highway network.

We will not allow Oregonians to travel on unsafe bridges, but as bridges age it will steadily cost more to maintain them. Over time these bridges will face weight restrictions and eventual closure without timely replacement.
