Construction work and spring break in Lincoln City
|
Our crews have been hard at work in Lincon City to bring hundreds of curb ramps to ADA standards along U.S. 101. These curb ramps help make it easier for everyone to move between the sidewalk and road, whether you have a disability or not.
With spring break coming up over the next several weeks, you can expect to see an increase in pedestrians and traffic.
Please keep the following in mind:
- During spring break, we're planning to pause our work in the general downtown area and will continue to work near Lincoln Beach. Work in the general downtown area will resume after spring break.
- We're continuing to work on the traffic signals through town, please use caution and be patient.
- Use the designated crossings for the safest way to cross the street. While we're working on the sidewalks and ramps, some crossing may be closed for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.
This is a great time to remember to use the zipper merge, drive with caution and continue to support local businesses that are open during construction!
|
Zipper merging is a safe way to merge!
Using the zipper merge may take a change in your mindset. Many drivers were taught to merge early and believe they are being “cut off" by vehicles merging from the lane that is ending. But sharing the road with a zipper merge means being patient and taking turns.
As you see the “lane closed ahead" sign, stay in your current lane up to the point of merge. Then take turns with other drivers to ease into the remaining lane. It is safer for motorists to use both lanes until reaching the defined merge area and then take turns continuing in the open lane, like the teeth of a zipper.
Safer driving habits benefit travelers and workers alike by preventing crashes and keeping traffic moving smoothly.

Shop local – blue signs and markers show business access!
We know that construction isn't convenient for anyone, whether you drive, ride, walk, roll or shop in the area.
To help you see where to go, we use blue signs and markers to show business entrances or accesses to parking lots. As a reminder, businesses are open during construction – and your support during this dusty time is appreciated!
When in doubt – look for blue to help guide you to a nearby business!
|
Don't forget – during construction, you can expect:
- Crews working Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Shoulder and lane closures as needed.
- Delays with flaggers helping direct traffic as needed.
- Construction noise – using saws to cut concrete can be loud and dusty.
- Businesses to remain open during construction.

Pay attention in the work zone, slow down and move over – imagine this is where you work! Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.
Remember that fines double in all Oregon work zones, whether workers and signs are present or not.
