ESTACADA – A landslide closed OR 224 four miles west of the Ripplebrook Ranger Station Sunday after heavy rains soaked the region. A local detour is in place, but travelers are asked to avoid the area due to safety concerns.

Monday, Feb. 24 Update

After the road was closed Sunday crews reassessed the area Monday morning and made the following plan:

  • Since the area is still wet with more rain in the forecast, crews will wait for rain to subside before beginning debris removal.
  • Debris removal could begin as early as Tuesday, Feb. 25.
  • This area was impacted by the 2020 Riverside Fire and stability issues remain as the ground heals and recovers.

Concerns

  • More rain in the forecast will delay landslide cleanup.
  • The road is closed with a local detour in place.
  • Travelers are encouraged to avoid the area.
  • There are other minor slides in the area, so be alert, slow down and drive to the conditions present.
