Safety and Accessibility Improvements in Downtown Corvallis

OR 99W and U.S. 20 at Harrison Boulevard and Tyler Avenue
We're making important upgrades to improve safety for everyone – whether you drive, ride, walk or roll!
We plan to start work in early February. You can expect:
- Shoulder and lane closures with flaggers helping direct traffic as needed.
- Construction noise and delays.
- Businesses to remain open during construction.
|
Project improvements
We're adding, replacing and upgrading multiple safety and accessibility features, including:
-
New traffic signals on Harrison Boulevard at NW 2nd Street and NW 3rd Street.
-
Upgraded ADA curb ramps to make them more accessible so it's easier for everyone to move between the sidewalk and road.
-
Truck apron installation to make it easier for large trucks to turn onto NW 3rd Street. Truck aprons provide extra space for a truck’s large wheels when turning, making it safer for the truck and other vehicles on the road.
-
Separated bike lane along Harrison Boulevard from 2nd Street to 4th Street, making it safer for cyclists to enjoy the ride.
-
Bulb-outs for shorter crossings at Tyler Avenue and NW 3rd Street. Bulb-outs make curbs longer and shorten the distance for pedestrians crossing the street.
-
Median separator installation at Tyler Avenue and NW 2nd Street to help keep cross traffic in check, improving safety for everyone.

Additional safety and accessibility improvements
Starting soon – Corvallis ADA Curb Ramps: OR 99W | U.S. 20 | OR 34
Over the next couple years, we are working on several hundred curb ramps in the area. Most corners only need minor work or signs installed but some corners will require a full rebuild.
Why are ADA curb ramps important? They provide access between the sidewalk and road for people using wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, hand carts, bicycles and also for pedestrians who have trouble stepping up and down high curbs. ADA curb ramps benefit everyone regardless of whether they have a disability.

Under construction – OR 34 Van Buren Bridge Replacement
The new bridge will have two travel lanes, a bike lane and a protected bicycle/pedestrian path. We’re also adding a separated bike lane on Van Buren Avenue between NW 1st Street and NW 2nd Street and upgrading curb ramps to ADA standards.

Don't keep this a secret – help us spread the word!
