In-person Open House
We are hosting an in-person open house to share information and hear your thoughts about the future of the traffic signal in John Day. Hear from the project team about how we got here and why we are considering these options.

About the project
In July, construction crews began working at this intersection as part of the effort to upgrade curb ramps in Grant County. That project included installing new conduits and wires for upgraded infrastructure like traffic signals and pedestrian crossings. We needed to turn off the traffic signal and use stop signs to complete the ADA work.
Since the signal has been turned off and the intersection has been operating as a four-way stop, we have received feedback from the community. Some residents support keeping the four-way stop, while others are requesting that the signal be turned back on. To help us navigate what this looks like, we committed to the John Day City Council and Grant County Court that we would engage with the community before making any decisions.
We are now in the process of conducting traffic studies and other research to help guide our plan for this intersection.

- Do you walk, ride your bike or drive a vehicle?
- Pedestrians and bicyclists: How has it been using the four-way configuration? How does it compare to the traffic signal? Do you have any suggestions to improve the intersection?
- Drivers: Have you found the four-way configuration to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection?
- Did you encounter any challenges or noteworthy moments during your walk, ride or drive through the intersection?
