Temporary lane closures and turning restrictions on Scholls Ferry Road overpass start July 8

Crews will close one lane in each direction on the Scholls Ferry Road overpass between Washington Square Road and Cascade Avenue starting Monday night, July 8 for up to four months. One lane in each direction on the overpass will remain open. This work allows crews to upgrade the safety railings, similar to work on the Allen Boulevard overpass earlier in the project, and repave the overpass.  

Here's what you need to know:

• What: Scholls Ferry Road overpass between Washington Square Road and Cascade Avenue reduced to one lane in each direction for up to four months starting Monday night, July 8. No left turns will be allowed from Scholls Ferry Road heading south onto the southbound OR 217 on-ramp. 
• Drivers impacted by this left-turn restriction may use Cascade Avenue to travel to the interchanges to the north at Hall Boulevard or the south at Greenburg Road.
• The on-ramp to southbound OR 217 from Scholls Ferry Road remains open for drivers heading north on Scholls Ferry Road.
• When: Starting Monday night, July 8 for up to four months. 
• Why: Crews will upgrade the safety railing and repave the overpass. Closing the lanes on the overpass provides space for crews and equipment to complete the work safely.

The Scholls Ferry Road overpass over OR 217 will be reduced to one lane in each direction for safety rail and pavement improvements.

Upcoming work

• Later this summer, expect an 11-day closure of the Greenburg Road on-ramp to northbound OR 217 while crews reconfigure the ramp to tie into the new auxiliary lanes.
• Later this summer, expect several overnight directional closures of OR 217 between Greenburg Road and OR 99W while crews install the horizontal support beams for the new Hall Boulevard overpass near Pfaffle Street. During these closures, all lanes of OR 217 in one direction at a time will close overnight.

What is this project?

The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.

We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
