Apply for the Historic Columbia River Highway Advisory Committee by Dec. 16
Governor's Representative for Multnomah County seat open
There is an opening for the Governor’s Representative for Multnomah County on the Historic Highway Advisory Committee. The committee advises the State of Oregon on issues relating to the Columbia River Highway, and the Historic Highway State Trail including: funding, project prioritization, project design details, long-range planning and congestion solutions.
This is a ten-member committee with six members from the community: two from Multnomah, Hood River, and Wasco Counties – one appointed by the Governor, and one appointed by the respective County Commission. The remaining members include the Transportation Department Director, the Parks and Recreation Department Director, the State Historic Preservation Officer, and the Tourism Commission Chief Executive Officer, or their delegates.

A look back at 2022
A few key milestones and accomplishments from the past year.
- Planned, implemented, and evaluated the Waterfall Corridor and Multnomah Falls Timed Use Permit Pilots with partners.
- Broke ground on construction for the first 2 miles of the Viento State Park to Mitchell Point State segment of the Historic Highway State Trail.
- Connected the Mitchell Point Tunnel between the east and west portals with work continuing next year and shared the progress with Congressmen Blumenauer and DeFazio.
- Submitted the Mitchell Point to Ruthton Trailhead State Trail National Scenic Area permit to Hood River County for review.
- Planned and held the 2022 centennial to celebrate 100 years of paved Historic Highway between Troutdale and The Dalles.
- Submitted funding applications for both Federal Lands Access Program and Nationally Significant Federal Lands and Tribal Projects funds for State Trail Construction
- Enjoyed watching the Historic Highway mural painting in The Dalles.

A look forward
A few key things to look forward to in 2023.
- Continuing multi-agency coordination to address congestion, safety and the visitor experience along the Historic Columbia River Highway and Multnomah Falls.
- Completing the first 2 miles of the Viento State Park to Mitchell Point State trail segment.
- Starting construction on Cascade Avenue and Rand Road in Hood River (joint project with the City of Hood River).
