Here’s an update on what’s happening this month.

First, there are two widening projects on Houston Street, also known as 81st Street.
One project is expanding Houston Street from three to five lanes between Olive Avenue and Aspen Avenue. The crew has already installed new storm sewer pipes. Now they are replacing the last two storm inlets and finishing the curb and gutter. Next, they will lay the asphalt and sod on the south side of the road. Once that's complete in a couple of weeks, work will move to the north side of Houston Street.
The other widening project on Houston Street, is between Lynn Lane and Old Highway 51. Like the previous project, this section is also being widened from three to five lanes. A new water line has been installed, and crews are now connecting it to the city’s system and upgrading the storm sewers. A temporary widening on the south side allows drivers to keep using the road during construction.
Next, there are two projects underway on Washington Street, also known as 91st Street.
The Washington Street Reclaiming Project, east of Lynn Lane, is nearing completion. The road base has been stabilized with cement and asphalt. Crews are rebuilding driveways to match the new road height, increasing storm drain capacity, and regrading ditches for better drainage. Driveway and grading work should finish in about three weeks, and road striping will follow in two to three weeks, weather permitting.
Crews are also working on the Washington Street and Lynn Lane (9th St.) intersection project on the northeast corner. Please note that left turns are not permitted at this time. Traffic is using a temporary road, and concrete work started this week. A new storm sewer pipe is being installed on the northeast side, and temporary lighting is in place. Once complete, this project will expand the intersection to five lanes in each direction, with two through lanes and a left-turn lane on each side. It will also include new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps.
Plus, work has also begun on two new HAWK Beacon signals to help pedestrians cross the trail system safely. Concrete work on Elm Place is finished, and it’s about halfway complete on Washington Street. The new signals will be installed when they arrive later this summer. These are the first two of three new HAWK Beacons planned for Broken Arrow.
