A Message from the Superintendent

Jr./Sr. High School Shifting to Remote
Amity Elementary Shifting to Hybrid

Deer Park Families:

Over the past several days, we have seen several positive COVID-19 cases throughout the district, specifically students inside of the Jr./Sr. High School. With the safety of our students and faculty in mind, we have made the determination to shift the learning models of both the Jr./Sr. High School and Amity Elementary over the coming weeks, leading up to the Thanksgiving break.

Below, you will find details for each of the buildings. You will notice that the plans are different for Amity and the Jr./Sr. High School. At the Jr./Sr. High School, I am, for the first time, seeing what would be considered active spread inside of the building. We have not seen the same active spread at Amity.

I have included a video with all of the statistics and the rationale for all of the decisions being made. Please watch the video, linked below, for all of those details.

Details: Jr./Sr. High School

The Jr./Sr. High School will begin remote learning effective immediately. Tomorrow, Friday, October 23, students will not report to school. Students will be able to stop by the Jr./Sr. High School to collect any materials they may need, but will need to leave immediately upon collecting items.

The students will remain remote through Friday, November 6. On Monday, November 9, students will return to the hybrid model, following A/B day schedules from the beginning of the school year. We will continue with this model through the Thanksgiving holiday break. We will reassess in mid-November, based on current conditions, how we will continue school after Thanksgiving and through the Winter Holiday Break.

Details: Amity Elementary

Amity Elementary students will all be in-person on Friday, October 23. Beginning, Monday, October 26, students will move to the A/B hybrid model. Monday, October 26 will serve as an A Day and Tuesday, October 27 will serve as a B Day. Students will all be virtual on Wednesday, October 28 leading up to conference days on Thursday and Friday, which will not include any instruction.

Beginning Monday, November 2, all students will follow the A/B day schedules from the beginning of the school year. During Election Week, A day students will be in class on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 3. We will have a remote day on Wednesday and B Day students will be in session on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6. We will continue with this model through the Thanksgiving holiday break. We will reassess in mid-November, based on current conditions, how we will continue school after Thanksgiving and through the Winter Holiday Break.

As always, the safety of our students and staff are at the forefront of all of these decisions that we make. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate through these ever-changing circumstances.

Sincerely,

Jay Phillips
Superintendent
