City Honors Kelly Johnson Jr. for outstanding service at Black History Month recognition event

The City of New Rochelle successfully hosted its Black History Month Recognition event on February 20 at New Rochelle City Hall, honoring Kelly Johnson Jr., Executive Director of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau, for his exceptional dedication and service by creating opportunities for young people and fostering a positive environment within the community.

The Black History Month Recognition event underscores the City’s commitment to honoring its diverse community and celebrating the individuals who make a lasting impact.

City of New Rochelle approves transformative mixed-use waterfront development project

Site plan approval has been given for Pratt Landing, a landmark mixed-use waterfront development set to redefine and reconnect the City’s downtown to its vibrant shoreline. This milestone paves the way for the official launch of the transformative project, which recently completed a comprehensive public review process that exemplifies New Rochelle’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and sustainable, inclusive growth. 

Pratt Landing will transform New Rochelle’s shoreline with new residential, retail, office and recreational spaces, building on the City’s ongoing infrastructure improvements with 300 rental units, 99 condominiums, commercial space, a hotel, new parks, and expanded waterfront access to provide a waterfront destination that will attract visitors and positively influence downtown activity. City Manager Melendez releases 2025 Work Plan

The first work plan released by City Manager Wilfredo Melendez maps out City-wide projects for the upcoming fiscal year, aligning with long-term priorities and addressing residents’ evolving needs.The plan highlights the City of New Rochelle’s key objectives and strategic priorities in 2025 across five key pillars and includes enhancements to public infrastructure, improved sustainability and resilience measures, expanded economic opportunities, and increased community engagement and public activations.

Info sessions for Summer Camps March 4 & 6

Parks and Rec invites families to attend two informational sessions about the City's summer camp programs. The sessions will be held evenings on two different dates and at two convenient locations;
March 4th, 5:30-7PM City Hall Rotunda
515 North Ave
March 6th, 5:30-7:00PM Downtown REC
33 LeCount Place, 2nd Floor, New Roc City

During the sessions, the Parks and Recreation Department will provide an overview of the summer camp programs available for New Rochelle residents, including:

  • Camp N.O.W  @New Rochelle High School (Grades 5-7)
  • Ready, Set, Camp @ Jefferson Elementary School (Grades K-5)
  • Ready, Set, Camp @ Ward Elementary School (Grades K-5)
  • Kiddie Kamp (Ages 3-5)
  • Camp Joy (Special Recreation for I/DD, Ages 5-21)

For grades pre K-7 and Special Ed ages 5-21

Parks & Recreation offers various camp activities for grades preK-7th and current students of special education ages 5-21. 

For the first time ever, the Department of Parks & Recreation is offering bus transportation as part of the camp registration process.  Additionally, as in the past, financial aid assistance & camp scholarships are available for eligible families.

Camp N.O.W. for middle school students

The Youth Bureau offers Camp N.O.W. for students graduating 5th, 6th, or 7th grade. Located at New Rochelle High School. this four-hour camp program meets Monday - Thursday (3 trips on 3 Fridays - Additional fee for trips) and features a variety of sports, passive and active games, the arts, STEAM, and special pre-teen-themed activities.

All applications must be submitted by the deadline of April 28, 2025 at 6PM.
The Youth Bureau is open from 8:30AM-4:30PM, Monday-Friday at City Hall, 515 North Avenue, Ground Level.

Join the New Rochelle Police Department's Citizen Police Academy! Classes meets on Wednesdays March 12 to May 14, 2025 from 6:30-9:00PM.

Food Scrap Recycling Program

New Rochelle’s Food Scrap Recycling Program removes food scraps from the solid waste stream and offers residents a convenient way to recycle, contributing to a healthier environment. Residents can drop off food scraps at two designated locations in New Rochelle:

  • Pinebrook Tennis Courts Parking Lot – 1-99 Albert Leonard Place
  • Outside D’Onofrio Park – Emmett Terrace

Starter kits and compostable bags are available for purchase at the DPW office in City Hall, 515 North Avenue. The kits are priced at $20.00 and include a 2-gallon countertop bin, a 6-gallon home storage and transportation bin, and a roll of 30 compostable bags (for the countertop bin).

Helpsy recycling

Helpsy Textile Recycling offers home pickup 

The City of New Rochelle, in collaboration with Westchester County, is proud to announce their partnership with Helpsy to offer a free and easy home pickup clothing and textile recycling service for the local community.

Accepted items include clothing, footwear, accessories, linens, luggage and stuffed animalsVIEW FULL LIST.

Pickups in New Rochelle will take place weekly by appointment on Saturdays between 7AM-5PM. Accommodations can be made for religious observances. Sign up at www.helpsy.co/newrochelleny or call 1-800-244-6350. 


Beechwood

Organic Waste Transfer Station permits now on sale

Commercial landscapers can now apply for permits and begin registering their vehicles. The site will open mid-March. The Beechwood Organic Waste Transfer Station is newly constructed and features a truck scale. Landscapers will only be allowed to dump yard waste after applying for and receiving a commercial dump permit from the City.

Photo Exhibit

"Ways of Seeing" Photography Exhibit at the NRCA Rotunda Gallery

"Ways of Seeing," an exhibit at the NRCA Rotunda Gallery will run through March 28th. Photographers who will be featured are Pari Dukovic, Sophy Holland, Eric Ogden, Allison Orenstein, Victoria Will and Lelanie Foster.

The NRCA Rotunda Gallery is located in New Rochelle City Hall at 515 North Avenue, and open to the public during regular business hours. An artists' reception will be held on Tuesday, February 18 from 5-7PM.
