Homicide Investigation
North Las Vegas, Nevada – One teenager is dead following a shooting that occurred yesterday afternoon in North Las Vegas.
On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at about 2:40 p.m., officers responded to Canyon Springs High School, located near East Alexander Road and North 5th Street, in reference to a shooting. An 18-year-old male was transported to UMC Hospital where he died from his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates an altercation occurred between the victim and an unknown suspect before the victim was shot. The suspect then fled prior to police arriving on scene. Detectives are still investigating a motive for the shooting but believe this was not a random act of violence.
Detectives have confirmed the victim was enrolled and attended Canyon Springs High School.
The Coroner's Office will release the identity of the decedent, and cause and manner of death, after proper notification to next of kin.
