 Cundiyo and Cerro Piñon are in READY evacuation status
SANTA FE, N.M., Aug. 8, 2026—Due to increased activity on the Frijoles Fire, Santa Fe County Fire Department has changed the evacuation status to READY for the communities of Cundiyo and Cerro Piñon. NM 503 remains closed between County Road 98 and State Road 76 except for local and emergency traffic.
There are three status updates in the READY, SET, GO alert system that lead up to an evacuation, and READY is the first level of preparedness. There is no evacuation at this time, but residents should gather essential items and make a plan to leave if evacuation orders are issued.
In READY status, you should
- Have a Go-Bag packed and ready
- Plan different evacuation routes
- Designate an emergency meeting location outside of the fire hazard area
- Assemble an emergency supply kit
- Appoint an out-of-area friend or relative as a point of contact so you can communicate with family members
- Maintain a list of emergency contact numbers in your emergency supply kit
- Monitor fire weather conditions and fire status
- Alert your family and neighbors
- Ensure that your family knows where your gas, electric, and water main shut-off controls are and how to use them
Your Go-Bag should contain a three-day supply of items you would need to safely evacuate your home, which may include medications, water, food, pet food, infant formula, diapers, cash or traveler’s checks, and toiletries.
If conditions change to the SET status, that means you should take further steps, including to closely monitor the news and alerts for updates, turn off propane tanks and gas at the meter, pack your car, and be ready to evacuate if orders are called. Santa Fe County continues to coordinate with partner agencies and monitor conditions for potential impacts to County communities. The U.S. Forest Service remains in incident command of the Frijoles Fire and is the official source for information regarding the fire.
