Good morning, Maplewood! Is it us or is spring flying by? Last weekend marked the official opening of the Maplewood Pool, and if you hustle, you can still get your early bird discount through June 1 at www.maplewood.recdesk.com. Also, don't forget next Tuesday, June 2, is election day. MAPLEWOOD FARMERS MARKET RETURNS

Maplewood Farmers Market is back! Next Monday, June 1, meet us at the Springfield Gazebo, between 2-7 pm, to kick off our first farmers market of the season! Featuring all the farm-fresh fruits, veggies, meats, cheeses & pies you can gobble, plus a slew of local specialty treats & free health screenings from Maplewood Health Department.

Vendors include Stony Hill Farm; Barry’s Farm Stand; Cereal Dreams; Flounder Brewing Company; Top Shelf Plus; Thelis Coffee; CFA Soap; Grandma Emmas; Pallet Brewing; Taste of the Caribbean; Pickles Olives, Etc.; Emulsion MX; Hudson Grinding; Hoffman Bread; Aunt Lullie’s; Sip Haus; Bebes All Natural; Blooming Brew; Saint Rocco treats & more.

PRIDE MONTH

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the impactful history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals. Pride Month is also a time to recognize all of the amazing LGBTQIA+ contributions to society, celebrate diversity, and embrace inclusivity. 

In celebration of this important commemoration, Maplewood and South Orange Township and community organizations are offering programming, visual art displays, theatre performances, family events and educational panels, and so much more throughout the month of June! BULK DROP OFF DAY

Basement & garage looking a bit full these days? Mark your calendars for our biannual Bulk Drop Off day at Department of Public Works (DPW).

Saturday, June 6, from 8 am to 2 pm, is the first of our two bulk item recycling events this year (the second is scheduled for Sept. 12). Maplewood residents can dispose of bulk items at 359 Boyden Ave. between 8 am - 2 pm.

ALL HAIL THE CHIEF

This summer, Maplewood Township will have a new Police Chief in town. After 25 years of service, Maplewood Police Chief Albert Sally will retire this July, passing the baton to his current Deputy Police Chief, Niheema Malloy. The incoming chief was appointed at last week's Township Committee meeting, and you can join us for her swearing-in ceremony on July 21 at 6:30 pm at Maplewood Town Hall. GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY

Join us on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 4:30 pm, for the 12th anniversary of National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

We invite everyone in MAPSO to #WearOrange as we join in community with families, local elected leaders & gun safety advocates to demand a future free from gun violence.

Together, we will remember the millions of lives stolen or impacted by gun violence and discuss actionable steps we can take to make a difference. RSVP by texting ORANGE to 644-33.

VILLAGE WATCH PARTY & FAMILY MOVIE

You'll want to clear your calendar for the evening of Thursday, June 25 - this one is going to be fun.

In celebration of the World Cup, Maplewood Township will kick the evening off with a family-friendly movie in Memorial Park (Air Bud: World Pup), followed by a street-wide watch party along Maplewood Avenue in the Village.

E-Bike laws are changing & Maplewood Police Dept. is doing a live, online presentation on May 28, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. to go over the new laws, their impact on adult & teen riders, and present training lessons and safety resources.

This event is free to the public, but registration is required.

MUNICIPAL PROSECUTOR: Maplewood Township is hiring a licensed attorney for Municipal Prosecutor. From the RFP, which is due tomorrow at 10 am: "The successful applicant shall provide all necessary and appropriate legal counsel and representation for the prosecution of cases before the Municipal Court. This includes the prosecution of all matters arising under the ordinances of the Township, as well as all other cases for which prosecution is not otherwise the responsibility of the County or State. CALL FOR ARTISTS FOR VILLAGE MURAL PROJECT: Maplewood Village Alliance (MVA) is inviting artists to submit proposals for a new temporary public mural project in the heart of Maplewood Village. The site-specific mural will be installed at Village Coffee, located at 164 Maplewood Avenue, and is intended to celebrate the creativity, vibrancy, and community spirit that define Maplewood while complementing the historic charm of the Village.
