Tropical Storm Helene Private Road and Bridge Partial Reimbursement
Apply for reimbursement of private road and bridge repair costs.
Union County residents whose property was impacted by Tropical Storm Helene in 2024 may now apply for up to 50 percent reimbursement of any documented private road and bridge repair costs. Residents can access an online reimbursement application form on the North Carolina Emergency Management website.
Although reimbursement applications will be accepted for a full six months, affected residents are encouraged to upload their project invoices and receipts as soon as possible due to the program’s funding authorization limits.

National Voter Registration Day
And a Reminder of Voter Registration Repair Effort
Tuesday, Sept. 16, is National Voter Registration Day, a reminder to make sure your voter registration is accurate and up to date. .
The Union County Board of Elections is currently working on a Voter Registration Repair Effort, which is a statewide effort to update voter registration records. Some registered voters throughout the state will receive a letter from the State Board of Elections. Please be careful in providing your personal information, and only give personal information to trusted authorities.
You can always check the status of your registration online, return the request form by mail, visit the Board of Elections office in Monroe, or update your information through the DMV’s online voter registration tool. Taking a few minutes to confirm your voter registration today helps ensure you’re ready for the next election.

Vaccinate Your Pets at Our Low-Cost Rabies Clinic
Union County will host a low-cost Rabies Vaccine Clinic at Union County Human Services, 2330 Concord Ave., Monroe, on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Only cash is accepted.
The last rabies clinic of 2025 will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Don't forget! Union County's annual Household Hazardous Waste event is tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Union County Agricultural Center, 3230 Presson Rd., Monroe. This free event gives Union County residents the opportunity to rid their homes of hazardous materials that you no longer need like, paints, pesticides and medications. Join us on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Union County Agricultural Center for a fun, family-friendly day celebrating youth, agriculture, and creativity!
Explore hands-on activities, enjoy concessions, and cheer on 4-H members during the annual livestock show and creative arts competition. From goats and lambs to LEGOs and sewing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
