Holiday Reminders

Most County Offices Closed Friday

Most County offices and facilities will be closed Friday, July 4, in honor of Independence Day. Thank you to those who will be working on that day to protect and serve Union County residents!

For any work-related injuries that are not serious on Friday, July 4, please visit one of the facilities listed below, then call Risk Management at 980.210.4278.

  • Atrium Urgent Care: 613 E. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe | 704.283.8193 | Open 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Family Urgent Care: 3007 Wesley Chapel Stouts Rd., Suite B, Monroe | 704.412.3612 | Open 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

For serious or life-threatening injuries, go to the nearest hospital.

P-Card Statements Due Next Tuesday

P-Card holders: Reconcile and submit your June procurement card statements to Finance by Tuesday, July 8. All statements require two signatures. Download statements through the P-Card portal.


Benefit Transition Tuesday, July 1

Our health plan and other benefits will transition on Tuesday, July 1. View this page on County Connect for details. Contact our benefit consultant team with McGriff if you have questions.

Be sure to share this information with any family members you enrolled on the County's health plan.

New Benefit Cards

Remember to provide your new benefit cards and information at the doctor’s office for medical/dental visits on and after Tuesday, July 1. Need new cards? Use these resources to request cards:

  • BCBS Medical/Pharmacy Card | Log in to the Blue Cross site at mycreatehealth.com and choose the ID Cards icon to print/download or request cards.
  • Sun Life Dental Card | After July 1, you can download a dental ID card by creating an account at www.sunlife.com/account or using these instructions. Physical ID cards will not be issued from Sun Life. If you need help creating a Sun Life account, click here.
  • Vision Insurance Card | If you elected vision benefits through Community Eye Care (CEC), cards have been mailed out. Request a new card, if needed, by calling CEC at 1-888-254-4290 or through the member portal.
  • Flexible Spending Account | Participants should be receiving new cards from HealthEquity soon.

Information Technology Assistant Director Completes Nationally Recognized Certification Program

Congrats to Christopher Liersaph (Information Technology) for graduating from the nationally recognized Certified Government Chief Information Officers (CGCIO) Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Government. This prestigious program prepares senior IT professionals for the complex demands of public sector technology leadership to be equipped to better serve staff and residents. Human Services Supervisor Receives Award for Childhood Support

Congratulations to Nicole Blevins (Human Services) for receiving the Outstanding Early Childhood Support Staff award at the 2025 Early Excellence Gala. For more than two decades, she’s led Smart Start-funded parenting programs, helping families navigate challenges with care and expertise. Nicole currently supervises the Parenting Support and Nurturing Program and will begin a Master of Social Work at Wingate this fall to expand support for local parents. Finance Department Earns Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Union County Government's Finance department, led by Beverly Liles, recently received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2024.  Read more about the accomplishment. Union County Receives AAA Bond Rating from Three Major Rating Agencies

We are proud to announce that Union County recently received a AAA bond rating and stable outlook designation from all three major ratings agencies: Standard & Poor's Global Rating (S&P), Moody's, and Fitch Ratings. The agencies have given the County the highest bond rating and designation possible for the general obligation bonds. Additionally, the agencies issued the AA+ and AA1 ratings on the County's limited obligation bonds (LOBs) and certificates of participation (COPs) outstanding. The ratings of AA+ and AA1 are only one level lower than AAA. Click here to read the full story.
