Union County Commissioners Unanimously Oppose State Legislation Intended to Limit Local Control

In a unanimous vote during their May 5 meeting, the Union County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution opposing key provisions in North Carolina House Bill 765.

The Board expressed strong concerns that HB 765 would significantly reduce the ability of Union County residents to influence land use decisions due to concerns about allowable types of development, housing density, school capacity, the capacity of public infrastructure to support new construction, and more.

You can bring your completed application for a new passport; we will take your photo and forward everything to the U.S. Department of State to issue your passport. Debris Removal Efforts Continue Across Union County Following Hurricane Helene

Recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene are making steady progress. So far, more than 150,000 cubic yards of storm debris have been removed from creeks and streams across Union County. This work helps prevent future flooding and improve water flow. Crews are expected to continue through early summer—and their work may be extended. Property Reappraisal Community Information Session

Property owners can attend a Community Information Meeting about the 2025 countywide property reappraisal on Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m., at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe.
