Greenway Innovation Corridor
In collaboration with the City of Raleigh’s Office of Strategy and Innovation, the City’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department (PRCR) has identified the one-mile section of the Crabtree Creek Trail, between Kiwanis Park and Atlantic Avenue, as the City’s new Greenway Innovation Corridor. The Greenway Innovation Corridor is a segment of trail where the City will be able to test and monitor emerging technologies, applications and programing that can improve user experience and/or safety. In early 2025, PRCR will be applying a glow-in-the dark centerline along this section of trail. While the glow-in-the-dark centerline won’t provide enough light to fully extend operating hours, the intent is to evaluate its ability to assist commuters in completing the last part of their evening commute during winter’s early sunset period. Be on the lookout for updates on the glow-in-the-dark centerline project and other pilot programs for the Greenway Innovation Corridor in the future.

Weather Related Safety
As we approach the coldest period of the year, with daylight hours being the shorter, please remember the following when using the Capital Area Greenway System.
• All Greenways are closed from dusk until dawn. • Be aware of standing water or wet areas that may be icy. • Wooden structures retain moisture longer than asphalt or concrete pavement. So slow down and proceed with caution when transitioning between these areas. • Wear warm clothing, preferably in multiple layers, when temperatures are lower. • And as always, be courteous when sharing the trail!

Personal Safety
While using the Capital Area Greenway System, it’s always a good idea to take a few simple precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. The Greenway is part of the vibrant, dynamic urban environment of Raleigh, where, like any public space, it's important to remain aware of your surroundings. Here are some helpful tips for using the trails safely:
• Use the greenway trails with a buddy. • Visit the trails only during daylight hours (the hours of operation) for the best visibility. • Stay alert by keeping headphones off, so you can hear what's happening around you. • Choose trail sections that are well-traveled by other users. • Secure your belongings, lock your car, and always take your keys with you. • In case of an emergency, don’t hesitate to call 911.
By taking these simple steps, you can make the most of your time on the Greenway, knowing that you’re helping to create a safe, positive experience for everyone.
