Montana Board of Public Education Votes to Start Montana K-12 School Accreditation Three-year Cycles in the 2026-2027 School Year
HELENA, MT – On Friday, July 18th, the Montana Board of Public Education (BPE) voted to start the Montana K-12 school accreditation three-year cycles in the 2026-2027 school year. In May, the BPE previously voted to change the accreditation review cycle for K-12 schools from annual reviews to every three years. Even though K-12 schools will be transitioning to three-year cycles, school and district leaders will still be required to submit the following essential elements on an annual basis:,
- IEFA Funding: Completing IEFA Assurances and Funding Obligations.
- Infinite Campus Data: Submitting and ensuring the accuracy of Infinite Campus data, such as, teacher load and class size
- General Assurances: Assuring required district accreditation policies, procedures, and plans are in place.
Each district’s determined cycle for 2026-2027, 2027-2028, or 2028-2029 can be found at this link.
Schools currently in deficiency status will be required to make improvements in areas that have been individually determined deficient or leading to the overall deficiency status during the 2025-2026 school year. Further information regarding the cycles and specific deadlines for the remaining requirements will be communicated shortly.
