Item barcodes should be 14 characters long and begin with your library specific prefix. There are some instances where a shorter barcode is preferred, like when an item is on-order or if you are discarding it and re-use barcodes. In these cases, barcodes should be generated by typing 'AUTO' in the barcode field which causes the system to insert a unique generated barcode.
Barcodes should never contain special characters, letters, or be more than 14 characters or else it could cause errors on the backend of the system.
