Libraries Partnering with Public Health – Check it out

It’s summer! Most of you want to get out and enjoy the good weather, take a summer road trip, take advantage of the long days. If you have kids, you may have lined up a few things for them to do, but inevitably some boredom creeps in, which is why July has been deemed National Anti-Boredom month!
Libraries and community programs provide many boredom-busters and opportunities for social connection this time of year. Library scavenger hunts or community bike-a-thons can give families a physical activity outlet. Art projects and creative cooking demonstrations led by libraries can get kids of all ages thinking. Community activities and events like community gardens, farmer’s markets, outdoor picnics and music events can get patrons engaged. Your state and local public health departments promote many of these activities, recognizing that social connection and health go hand-in-hand. These warmer months are a great time to promote public health through boredom-busting exercise, healthy food, and community gathering.
Who knew preventing boredom and chronic disease went so well together? Happy summer!II
