We have entered the final few days of our Historical Picture Prompt Short Story Contest. The contest closes next Friday, February 23rd. We have already received almost 100 entries, so now is the time to get your thinking cap on and submit your masterpiece. All you need to do is find a historic photo on the Montana History Portal and come up with a creative backstory. Your story can be realistic, funny, or totally off the wall - you decide.
When the deadline has passed, our judges will review all entries and select winners in several age groups. We are giving away great prizes.
Teachers, this is a great way to get your students interested in history. They will have to search through a large collection of historical images, which may spark their imagination and inspiration. They will be challenged to understand what they see in the photo, understand clues for historical context, and get to exercise their creative writing skills.
If you need inspiration, you can browse our Past Winners. Once your story is ready to go, you can submit it through this easy online form. We hope to read your story soon!
