Cervical Cancer Prevention

Health in the 406

Cervical Cancer Prevention

  • Cervical cancer is the fifth most common cancer among Montana women under 50. Each year, an average of 38 women are diagnosed and nine die from the disease.
  • Most cervical cancers are caused by HPV. Getting the HPV vaccine can greatly reduce your risk by protecting against the most dangerous virus types.
  • Women should begin cervical cancer screening at age 21. Regular Pap tests can prevent cancer or detect it early.
