| Dear Community,
The Minneapolis Police Department and Minneapolis Park Police responded to a report of a person experiencing a mental health crisis and reportedly armed with a firearm in a parking lot at Minnehaha Falls Park. The Minneapolis Police Department used its crisis negotiators in an effort to safely resolve the situation.
It is with profound sadness I share that the individual died by suicide at approximately 9PM. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
MPD is the investigative agency will be handling this case.
As many of you know, this is my neighborhood, several people and families were out enjoying the park and I know that this tragedy was deeply traumatic to many in the area. My prayers are with the family of this individual and I am grateful to the quick response by negotiators. These are all the details I have at present.
