Justice for Renee Good and Updates

Council Member Robin Wonsley

January 7th, 2026

Dear Community,

This morning, federal agents shot and killed a Minneapolis resident, 37-year old mother Renee Good. My heart breaks for Renee Good’s family and loved ones, who will have to forever live with the pain caused by the Trump Administration's reckless and deadly actions.

Community members on the ground from the start have said that ICE’s constant escalation would lead to devastating outcomes like this.

ICE needs to leave Minneapolis immediately.

The Mayor and City Council have put forward a unified call for the Trump administration to withdraw all federal agents immediately. Federal immigration enforcement is causing chaos in our city and making our community less safe.

Moments after murdering Renee, ICE continued their operations of kidnapping immigrant neighbors across the city. There can be no more illusion that ICE is targeting “bad guys” – nobody is safe when ICE is here.

The agent who killed Renee needs to be arrested, with an independent investigation.

Nobody is above the law. The ICE agent who killed Renee needs to be arrested immediately and prosecuted. The federal government has already lied about what happened and clearly cannot investigate their own agent. We need an impartial investigation by a local agency and are calling on the State of Minnesota for an investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

Minneapolis residents keep showing up to support one another.

This morning, I was on the ground with other Council Members and hundreds of neighbors as we learned the details of this tragedy. This evening, thousands of residents gathered in a peaceful vigil to mourn Renee’s murder and commit to continuing to protect our immigrant neighbors.

After the vigil, I attended a meeting hosted by the Seward Neighborhood Group about ways to support and protect immigrant communities from the federal government’s attacks. Every chair in the room was full with a neighbor eager to get organized.

I know thousands of residents have been organizing for weeks to support their neighbors targeted by the federal administration. Please continue to organize mutual aid to support neighbors with rent, groceries, escorts to school and work, and rapid response.
