A Final Message from Council Member Emily Koski

Council Member Emily Koski

December 29, 2025

To the Minneapolis Community I Love,

As my term on the Minneapolis City Council comes to a close, I want to share my deepest gratitude with each of you. Serving as a Minneapolis Council Member these past four years has been one of the greatest honors of my life. This role has shaped me both personally and professionally in ways I never could have imagined.

When I look back, I’m proud of what we have achieved together. Whether it was strengthening community engagement, supporting local businesses, increasing housing options in our neighborhoods, investing in safer streets and intersections, improving city services, or advancing policies that help families thrive, none of it was done alone. Every accomplishment, large or small, was the result of neighbors showing up, asking hard questions, sharing their lived experiences, and pushing all of us at City Hall to do better.

But beyond the policy work, what will stay with me forever are the people I have met along the way. I’ve had the privilege of sitting in living rooms, community centers, backyards, block parties, and local businesses with you. I’ve listened to your stories, the celebrations, the hardships and tragedies, the frustrations, the hopes for your children, the creative ideas, the concerns for our shared future. In these conversations, you trusted me with your honesty and your vulnerability. You taught me what it means to be accountable, what true collaboration looks like, and how important it is for government to meet people where they are.

This job has fundamentally changed how I understand leadership. It has taught me that being a public servant is less about having the right answers and more about being present, being empathetic, being more connected to one another and being willing to learn. It has pushed me to be a better advocate, not only for Ward 11, but for anyone whose voice is too often overlooked or unheard. I leave this role with a renewed belief that local government matters deeply and it’s where we can make the most impact on people's lives. And that change is built on day-to-day relationships, trust, and compassion.

As part of this transition, I want to extend a warm welcome to the incoming Council Member Elect, Jamison Whiting. Over the past weeks, we’ve worked closely together to ensure a smooth and thoughtful hand-off, and I’m confident in his commitment to serving Ward 11 with care, openness, and dedication. Should you need to reach him, you can contact his office at: jamison.whiting@minneapolismn.gov, ward11@minneapolismn.gov, or 612-673-2211.

I encourage you to say hello, share your ideas, and continue the civic energy and engagement that have defined these past four years.

To the Ward 11 residents who contacted my office, attended meetings, organized with neighbors, offered feedback, or simply stopped me on a walk to share a thought or concern, thank you. To every Minneapolis resident, organization, business and community group I have partnered with, you have inspired me every step of the way. To the city staff who welcomed me on ride-alongs and sit-alongs, spent countless hours in meetings, and shared your wisdom so we could serve residents well - thank you, thank you, thank you! Your care for Minneapolis and to one another is extraordinary, and I will carry your dedication and kindness with me always.

As I take this next step in my life and career, I do so with immense gratitude for the privilege of having represented you. I will remain a committed neighbor, an engaged community member, and a vocal advocate for the values we share.

Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for holding me accountable. And thank you for allowing me to serve.

In Gratitude and Happy New Year!

Emily Koski
