December 11, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced early Thursday morning that an officer-involved shooting occurred and that no one was injured.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., Third Precinct Officers responded to 3000 block of 5th Ave S for a 9-1-1 caller who reported a neighbor had pointed a gun at his mother The caller also indicated he went outside with his mother and heard a gun rack, so they went back inside their apartment.
MPD officers, in full police uniform and driving marked squad cars, arrived on scene at approximately12:34 a.m. They were informed by the caller and his mother that the suspect was a neighbor inside his apartment and was in possession of a black pistol.
Officers went to the exterior door of the suspect’s apartment. While they were outside, the suspect emerged from his residence with a gun in his right hand.
Officers gave multiple clear commands to drop the gun.
The suspect did not comply.
One officer fired two rounds. No one was struck by gunfire, and no one was injured.
The suspect was then taken into custody and a black handgun was recovered. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail for pointing the handgun at the woman.
The BCA responded and will lead the criminal investigation and an independent review of the use of force. Any further inquiries should be directed to the BCA.
The involved officer will be placed on standard administrative leave, as per MPD policy.
“This incident underscores the dangers our officers face every single day,” said Chief O’Hara. “In a fraction of a second, they were confronted with a life-or-death situation. We are grateful that no one was injured in this incident, and I am very thankful for the professional manner in which our officers handled it.”
