Minneapolis has long been a city that proudly welcomes immigrants, refugees, and families seeking opportunity. On Monday, the Trump administration filed a baseless lawsuit attacking those very values — dragging Minneapolis into court for standing with immigrant communities and refusing to bow to his hateful politics.
“Minneapolis will not back down. We will fight with all our strength for our immigrant neighbors — and we will win,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “Donald Trump has built his career on attacking immigrants and dividing Americans, and now he’s dragging our city into court with a fear-driven, politically motivated lawsuit. We won’t be bullied. We won’t cave. Minneapolis will always stand with our neighbors over Trump’s politics of fear.”
As a Welcoming City, Minneapolis makes it clear that everyone — regardless of immigration status — deserves to feel safe, respected, and included. That commitment shows up in language access, community outreach, and public health programs that serve all residents.
The Trump administration’s lawsuit isn’t about safety or law. It’s about scoring political points by scapegoating immigrants and undermining cities doing the real work of governing. Minneapolis will fight this case in court and continue doing what it’s always done: support and love our neighbors.
